I'm having a Billy Madison moment. Quotes from the movie and video clip images are appearing in my head in scattered pulses-- like when I was trying to recall my dreams this morning. It's been too long since I've seen the movie, so the words are hazy. Back to school Back to school Back to school (he sings)... Well I did it (he explains on stage to a roaring crowd at his graduation)...I can tell exactly why these specific thoughts are appearing. Because I did it. I'm going Back to School Back to School Back to School next year. I'm going to medical school. I'm going to be a doctor! There are a couple very slight differences between Billy and myself. Okay, I know Billy says he's going to be a teacher, and I love teaching-- But my calling is to be a doctor. And yes, he celebrates with Veronica Vaughn-- one hot piece of ace (as the late Chris Farley explains)... But I'm marrying someone millions more amazing. So yes. I'm a happy boy. My heart is full... My eyes are clear. I can't lose (right Coach Taylor?... BTW-- on the gabfest today both David Plotz and Emily Bazelon unabashedly discussed their love for Friday Night Lights... me too).
In the new years spirit, here's to 2008 for getting me there. For setting me up for success. For bringing me back to where I'm home and comfortable. Back to school. If 2008 was a year to set things up. 2009 is my year to get things started. Studying for my first real tests in years. Planning my wedding....
I wish I could blend this coming year into one smooth delicious spread. But instead it's going to be divided into two very different halves. The first half will consist of traveling, visiting friends and family, challenging myself to workout and recover... delights. The second half is the start of my career. I know not to be afraid because Jess has gone through the first two and a half years with pride, success and lots of smiles. I'm going in, and I can't wait. Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose.
